Keep in mind this tour is mainly for Taiwanese; however, I think it is doable without the Chinese language skill as long as you understand the safety guideline.
If you are more interested in serious deep sea fishing, I know just the right guy who can arrange the trip for you. He can speak some English.
Contact Ryan at 09 Like many other places in Taiwan, Penghu is full of delicious food and snacks to chow down. I listed out a few below.
So, make sure to check out my itinerary for restaurant recommendations and more photos. If one thing you must eat in Penghu, that is seafood.
Particularly, squid vermicelli is one dish you want to try here. Many restaurants near the Whale Cave serve squid vermicelli and other small eats.
Pumpkin rice noodle is another local specialty and traditional Penghu dish. I liked the chewy texture of noodle and sweet flavor of pumpkin.
Instead of mixing scallion into the flour batter, the fluffy pancake wraps scallions and other vegetables. Try it at the most famous Post Office Scallion Cake.
When you go around Penghu, you will spot many cactus dessert shops. Cacti can grow everywhere on this barren island. Try ice cream, slush or shaved ice.
Penghu peanuts are famous although they are not produced in a great quantity. You can purchase flavored peanuts.
But handmade peanut candies are my favorite snack from Taiwan. I love this set of decorated stone figures made out of Penghu rocks see above photo.
I bought them at a small gift shop at Erkan Historical Residences. It eats like toffee and tastes like peanut butter.
My mom loves them. All my American friends love them, too. It makes a great souvenir from Penghu. The peanut oil will ooze out after two weeks.
I like the one from here. From basil to Sichuan spicy, you can purchase a variety of flavored peanuts in a plastic bottle. It was a beautiful drive and some of the temples were stunning.
Zhongyang Street is a beautiful, narrow street hung with lanterns. Most of the old buildings are now cute little shops and cafes with gorgeous wooden fronts, and benches and scooters outside.
You can also see the Four-Eyed Well in this area; the four smaller holes were made to stop children from falling into the water.
There are some lovely beaches in Penghu, including Shanshui Beach and Shili Beach on Magong Island. As we visited in the low season, we had the beaches to ourselves and it was even warm enough to go for a swim!
At Shili Beach, there are also some impressive breakwaters. We enjoyed watching the waves crash against them over and over again.
Theo and I were walking down a dark road one night, when we came across a large open area filled with tables and people eating. The area has become a focus for a drug crackdown in recent years.
Eight suspects were arrested in Cagayan , a small island in northern Philippines, but no Taiwanese nationals were charged in relation to the importation scheme.
Despite the size of the drug seizure, only the five crew members of the Chinese fishing boat were detained in the operation, with authorities "unable to find the Taiwanese ship which should have turned up to take delivery of the drugs".
It was unclear from media reports how the Taiwanese side of the smuggling operation knew to abort the rendezvous.
The suppliers of the shipment also evaded capture. It was believed the drugs were destined to be transported from Penghu for distribution on Taiwan.
Penghu is served by Penghu Airport in Magong City and Qimei Airport in Cimei Township. Both airports opened in Daily Air operates flights between Penghu to Kaohsiung.

As the second smallest county in Taiwan, Penghu County may seem like a boring place to visit. There are plenty of amazing nature attractions you can find on Penghu.
The Twin Hearts Stone Weir is without question, one of the most famous attractions on Penghu Island if not the most! On a good summer day, expect to see a flock of crowd admiring this remarkable work of ancient local fishermen.
The purpose of the weir is to direct unsuspecting fish that swim towards the shallows and ultimately trap them in the enclosure during low tide.
You may see several fishing weirs on the island, but the Twin Hearts is by far the most unique and well preserved considering the age.
Low tide is the best time to see the attraction. However, depending on the lunar calendar, the best time can vary.
We went during the early afternoon. Though it was in the process of transitioning to high tide, the sight was still clear as day and beautiful to see.
Just enjoy the view and take a few pictures. There is a small vendor area where you can buy some refreshments, snacks and cheap souvenirs.
It certainly looks more impressive in real life than in pictures. This natural attraction is also located in the Cimei Township of Penghu Island.
But it's probably that you can't take a boat because of the terrible weather in wintertime. However,it's absolutely worth to experience it!
Date of experience: January Vietnam 26 contributions 5 helpful votes. The beaches was amazing! Fireworks at Penghu in July-A nice place.
The airport is accessible by MRT and International and Domestic terminal is in the same building. Arrived at Makong Airport after a short 50 minutes ride!
The firework lasted 15 minutes …. The girls behind me said these fireworks were much better than at Taipei during new years.
On the map, Penghu has about 5 larger islands and many smaller ones.
